Route through Texas.
It is a long way through Texas. Here is our first significant stop.
You cannot go anywhere in Texas without hearing
about Sam Houston.
He was the only person to be Governor of two states, TN and TX.
This statue is in Huntsville, home of Sam Houston University.
Our campsite in Medina Lake Thousand Trails,
northeast of San Antonio.
The flowers are Verbena.
Elsewhere in Medina Lake--the deer are everywhere.
Unfortunately, behind me is Medina Lake!
It will return after the severe drought is over.
Near Medina Lake is the "cowboy capital of the world", Bandera.
We toured and had lunch.
The "modern day" cowboys were having a rally.
So we got to hear the roar of hogs and
a country band.
Further west, a field of Texas blue bonnets.
A quick stop here for the grocery and a photo op with the
world's largest roadrunner.
BEEP BEEP!
West Texas and Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
Here is our camp site. It is not as pretty as our Medina Lake
site, but the view is spectacular.
The next four pictures are in the park.
El Capitan and a blooming yucca.
Us, too!
A hike into McKittrick Canyon, a nice 4.5 mile walk
along and through a small stream.
Another 4.5 mile hike, this time into the Devil's Hall.
Inside the Hall.
And onto New Mexico.
