Heinze Reunion Georgetown, Indiana

The Heinze reunion just wrapped up with
about 50 relatives in attendance.
The food was terrific, the venue was beautiful,
and the company was too.
Here are a few mostly un-captioned pictures.

Patiently waiting for the buffet table to be ready.

Preparing the deserts.

Some more waiting with patience.

Some not.

Yum!

Caught cleaning in the kitchen, Thanks!

Northward to Indiana reunion-Tennessee

Since we travel between Florida and Indiana often,
it is difficult to find new experiences.
Some of these are, some are not, but all were worth it.

Our son, Brian, his girlfriend Darrell, (center)
and our niece Susan Popp. (visiting Hoosiers)
They are enjoying the "real" Florida at the Wacissa River headwaters.

Susan's son, Isaac must have gone off the rope swing into the
70 degree spring water over 200 times.
We were there for about 5 hours and he
only came up to have a little watermelon!

The stops through Tennessee.

We have visited the Georgia part of Chickamauga & Chattanooga NMP
and now the Tennessee portion.

The stroll on Look Out mountain included terrific views
from the inside of the clouds but not of the valley below.

Dedicated in 2015, Manhattan Project NHS,
is an historic look at the building
of the atomic bombs dropped on Japan.
It also reminds us of the casualties and destruction they caused.  https://www.nps.gov/mapr/index.htm

We toured a flat top house.
These were constructed at Oak Ridge (the secret city)
as it grew into a large city for the secretive workers.

Our very first RV trip in our new Bounder motor home
included a stop here in 2002.
I think that we even had the same camp site.

Atop the mountain beside "the gap" at Pinnacle Point
affords nice views and a cool breeze just before a storm rolls through.

Pinnacle Point

Heading over the gap.
In the 1930's the highway was built right over the gap.
There was a requirement to restore the gap
when an alternate route was built.
In 1996 a tunnel was constructed and in 2002 restoration began.
Here are the results.

We were a little sore after a short hike up to Skylight cave
because our recent inactivity.

Indiana and reunion bound.

Thursday, June 30, 2016

We've spent a couple of months in our home in Ocala preparing ourselves and the motor home for our summer trip.  Below is a map of the likely route.  Blog updates should happen as the summer progresses.  We, of course, have played pickleball and toured the area in and around Ocala and Tallahassee.

Our probable route in red and black stars for stops/extended stays.

The pose seems appropriate at Alligator Point in the panhandle.

Memorial Day visit to have a beer with dad and mom
in the Florida National Cemetery.

CARDS! with brother Chris and sister-in-law Kathy in Chiefland.

Great river fun at the headwaters of the Wacissa.
There are at least 12 major named springs that form the river.

Benjamin and family.
Our first "main" stop will be in southern Indiana,
where we will take part in the Heinze family reunion.

Arizona Trip

 Arizona and Utah Trip

Bar and Grill in Tortilla Flat.
State Rt 88 east of Scottsdale in the Tonto National Forest.
Scenic drive through the desert and Superstition Mtns
 for lunch, beer, and atmosphere.

Weaver's Needle in the Superstitions.

Devil's Bridge hike end point in Sedona.
Do not miss Red Rock Country surrounding Sedona.
Stay in Sedona for a few days of shopping and sight seeing.
It is beautiful.
Hiking not on your list of activities?
Check out Pink Jeep Tours for back country sights.
There is an ad on this link.

Cathedral Rock saddle.  If you can make one hike, I suggest this one.
It is only .75 miles UP.  Don't take hiking sticks, you might need free hands.
You will have to climb some, but it is safe and spectacular.

Whisky Row in Prescott.
Great historical town with lots of saloons and brothels,
most of which are now shops.
Prescott was the territorial capital of AZ.

This ghost town is hopping, plenty of shopping, history, and lunching.
It is between Prescott and Sedona.

A little south of Page, AZ

East of Page, AZ

Valley of the Gods is "on route" to Arches NP in southeastern Utah.

There is a hike to Delicate Arch-not easy.
There is also a shorter hike to a view point.

This area is near Arches, outside Moab.  Worth a scenic drive!
Don't forget Canyonlands National Park, "around the corner" from Arches.  But for the best views into the canyon go to Dead Horse Point State Park between Canyonlands and Arches.

Scenic Highway 12 east of Bryce Canyon National Park.

Red Canyon west of Bryce Canyon National Park.

Heading into Zion from the east.

Again, the eastern side.

HooDoos west of Page, AZ and east of Zion NP and Kanab, UT.

North of Kingman, AZ, way north
