Montana

Montana

Our Route

at Devil Canyon and the Big Horn.

We visited Canyon Creek Battlefield and the Laurel, MT area
where Chief Joseph and his bands outfought and maneuvered
the cavalry during the Nez Perce Indian War.

East of Billings is Pompeys Pillar where William Clark
etched his name into the sandstone monolith.
It is the only remaining evidence that the
  Corps of Discovery passed here.

Us and Bill! in the Visitor Center.

At the signature.
There are about 5000 other etchings made by fur trappers,
military expeditions, railroad workers, and early settlers.

No one can climb the Pillar naturally.
We had to be content with lots of steps up the stairway,
and then only to an observation platform.

Signing in the trail to Granite Peak, Montana's highest point.
We just hike a while in the drizzle.

Up the trail.

View of Mystic Lake and Granite Peak that we did NOT see.
 Just a download.

We did get to Lower and Upper Memorial Falls
in the Lewis and Clark National Forest near Neihart.

The upper falls.

You might think that RV drains do not become clogged.
You'd be wrong.

Idaho is next.
