Summer 2018 4

Oregon  plus
The saw us!

Scenic overlook with lots of smoke,
still impressive.

We found a beach without smoke and enjoyed a walk.

That notch to the right of me was carved for
a stage coach before US 101 was constructed.
The stage would time arrival for low tide.

Small creek falls at the beach.

When there is a National Park site, we have to go,
even if it is a repeat visit.

The trail's end at Seaside, OR

Pacific City and Tiawanda Rock.

Cape Meares lighthouse.

"Octopus" tree (Pacific Northwest Spruce)
in Cape Meares State Park.

Still at Cape Meares, there IS a whale out there.
And beauty.

With a nod to Todd Snyder--at the Tillamook County Jail

The Blue Heron.
This is a smaller venue similar to the gigantic
Tillamook Cheese Factory nearby that we toured in 8-05.

Lincoln Memorial in Lincoln City.
This statue was given to the city by the artist
on the condition that the town not change its name.
Lincoln was offered the governorship
of the Oregon Territory in 1849.
He turned it down to practice law and run for president.

"D" River, the world's shortest!

Depoe harbor, the world's smallest navigable harbor!?

We were on the coast for about two weeks and had only
a few days that were not too smokey to enjoy the beauty.

View from Cape Foulweather.
Probably a whale out there too.

Puffin at the aquarium

Yaquina Bay lighthouse (Oregon's shortest lived)

The lighthouse (Oregon's tallest) at Yaquina Head.

Lunch in trendy Nye Beach

Heceta Head bridge.
The fog is rolling out just in time for our visit.

This is the assistant's quarters for Heceta Head Light.
It is now a bed and breakfast.

Still blackberries to eat on the trail in September.

Heceta Head lighthouse.
The rocky coast meets the dunes, just north of Florence.

Siuslaw National Forest on the Sweet Creek Falls trail.

boasts the world's largest Ponderosa Pine.

Muscle pose!

 In the Big Obsidian Flow.

A cool walk on Paulina Peak with
Mt. Bachelor peaking through the smoke.

We are heading east to visit family and friends in Indiana.
There are a few stops to make.

Penny's Diner in North Platte, Nebraska.
Penny (from The Big Bang Theory) was not there!

We always visit Capitols and Capitals and Presidential sites.
 We were pleasantly surprised
to find all three in one place, Vandalia, Illinois.

The State House.

The western terminus of the Cumberland Road
 is also in Vandalia.
